About Ayurvedic Yoga Massage

What is Ayurvedic Yoga Massage:
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) integrates traditional Indian deep tissue massage and yoga based stretching therapies using breath to assist with bringing the body into a state of harmony and alignment..
This original method of AYM was developed in the early 1980's by Master Kusum Modak from Pune, India. Kusum was a female student of BKS Iyengar. She brought together the essence of Iyengar Yoga and traditional Ayurvedic massage which she learnt from teacher Master Lamaye Maharaj, an expert in the art of therapeutic massage.

What to expect:
The treatment duration varies between 60 and 90 minutes.
The massage is given on the floor using a mattress. Organic Sunflower Oil is used to massage the body along with a unique powder called 'Calamus'. The combination of powder and oil facilitates the release of toxins in the body and also stimulates blood circulation, awakening the skin and senses. During the treatment the therapist will switch between deep tissue massage and a series of yoga based stretches.
Both hands and feet are used to provide the massage.

Before you book a treatment you should be aware that AYM is not the style of massage where you lie down and fall asleep. Many of the yoga stretches require active participation between both the therapist and client.

If you have any chronic conditions, please consult with your doctor or contact me directly to discuss the treatment before booking.

Benefits:
  • Releases tension in the muscles and loosens stiffness in the joints.
  • Stretches fascia’s and realigns body structure.
  • Increases the range of movement and improves correct posture.
  • Harmonizes the flow of vital energy (Prana) and induces a deep sense of stillness and opening.
  • Stimulates breathing capacity and promotes the circulation of all the body’s fluids.
