The Class Types
HATHA YOGA (60min)
This class incorporates asana (posture work) and also begins to introduce pranayama (breath) and meditation techniques. The practice is deep, challenging and nourishing with dynamic movements leading to longer holds in the asana. The emphasis is largely around creating stability and calmness in both body and mind. This practice is suitable for all levels of practitioner. Class includes some chanting.
FULL SPECTRUM HATHA (75-90min)
The full spectrum Hatha Yoga practice takes what we do in a 60min class to the next level. While still including posture practice to prepare the body and mind; a greater emphasis is placed upon the pranayama (breath) and meditation. The deeper tantric practices of Bandhas and Mudras may be utilised. Classes make use of chanting and mantra (no music played).
YIN YOGA (60min)
Yin Yoga postures are generally performed from a seated position or laying down on the floor. The postures are held for up to 5 minutes with the intent of relaxing the muscles, so the healthy stress of the posture can be transferred to the connective tissues of the body. This is a wonderful practice for those with a lot of stiffness and immobility, and can be a great compliment to an athletic training program. With time the practice becomes very relaxing and meditative.
Breathing practices are included as part of this practice and short meditations may also be incorporated.
Music is played in this class.
